This is just one of four huge tents at G&LW's Gem Mall. And that's just one of almost 40 shows!

Tucson Gem Show Accomodations
The first thing you should know about hotels in Tucson during the Gem Show is that prices usually triple over other times of the year.

In Tucson or Out of Tucson?
One way to beat the overpriced hotel market is to stay out of town. There are several local communities not far from Tucson that offer better prices. The down side is a longer commute to and from the show each day.

Prices
Normally you can get an inexpensive place like Motel 6 or Travelodge in Tucson from under $50. Not so during the Gem Show. Expect to pay right around $100/night for super basic accomodation. Anything above a two star hotel will run you at least $150 per night.

Call the Hotel Directly
Most of the chains will refer you to an 800 number that serves all their locations natiionwide. You will not get a good price by calling the 800 number. Instead, find a hotel or motel you like, get the direct line and call to see about a show special.

No Hotels Available?
Again, call the property directly. Often the national chains will black out availability once the hotel reaches a certain capacity. By calling direct, you may be able to take advantage of a cancellation or two to three day opening that is not available at the national level.

Persistence
Just keep calling. Eventually you will catch a break. There are rooms available somewhere in town, you just have to figure out where they are. You may find that the price you got that seemed too high at first looks a lot more palatable after ten or fifteen calls.
